Melissa Matey of the Louisiana State Police spoke to the Rotary Club of LaPlace at our meeting on October 11, 2016.  When asked what to do if you have a disabled vehicle on the interstate, she advised you should stay in the car with your seat belt fastened, put on your caution lights, and call 911 or *577 (the state police direct) for help.

Melissa also talked about recent incidents the Louisiana State Police had responded to in St John Parish.  She also discussed the presence of a black box in most newer cars which can assist the Louisiana State Police in determining the cause of an accident.  The good relations with the St John Sheriff Office and the Louisiana State Police was also discussed.
