RCOL President Demetria Carter and RCOL President Elect Denise Burrell presented a check in the amount of $1000.00 to the St. John United Way Executive Director Dolores Montz for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library at the March 7, 2023, Rotary Meeting. The Rotary International District 6840 contributed a grant amount of $200.00 from the Rotary Foundation for the 2022 - 2023 year. The Rotary Club of LaPlace contributed an amount of $800.00 for the 2022 - 2023 year. The Rotary International District 6840 Grant and the Rotary Club of LaPlace contributions provides funding to support the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in St. John The Baptist Parish. The funding supports 60 recipients of monthly books to pre-school children between the ages of birth to 5 years old. The intent is for parents to read the books to their children and develop the child's love of reading and parental bonding. The Rotary Club of LaPlace Rotarians solicit parents to sign their children up for the program by distributing the Dolly Parton Imagination Library Brochures in their place of business and by daily contacts. This basic education and literacy project beneficiaries are the pre-school children and their parents that establishes the early love of reading in the children.
