The Rotary Club of LaPlace kicked off the tenth year of the Project entitled “Fourth Graders Meet the American Flag” with a presentation to the Fourth Grade at Garyville Magnet School in LaPlace on October 4, 2017.  This project, presented by Rotarians as a skit, teaches fourth graders about the history of the American Flag.  Also covered is how to display the flag and how to pay respect to the flag.  Students earn a flag pin at the end of the presentation by answering questions about what was presented.

The flag presentation is given to all twelve elementary schools in St John Parish each year.  The Rotary Club of LaPlace also presents a new American flag to each school for their flagpole at the end of each presentation.  In 2016-2017 this project involved about 80 person hours and involved about half of the club members.
